The Dorking Judo Club - DJC Awards, Games Evening & AGM at Friends Provident - July 16th 2004

There was a good turn out for this year's summer Games & Awards Evening at the Friends Provident Sports Hall. Over 50 juniors crowded onto the mat to enthusiastically take part in plenty of games including some new ones and some old favourites like sumo wrestling!
We were joined by Nigel Veal from Friends Provident. He awarded the medals and trophies and in his speech reminded us of the close ties between his company and our club, which have lasted 19 years ! Nigel leaves Friends this year, so this was his last opportunity to hand out the medals. As a token of the club's thanks for his support over the last 17 or these 19 years, Richard presented Nigel with an award showing this achievement.
For those of you who would like to know more about our club's history check out the Newsletter web page which has copies of all the editions from 1985 to the present. Take note that the club is now 20 years old, and that an event is planned for next year to celebrate its coming of age !
This years award winners were;
Liz Newell - Spirit of Judo Award. This year Liz has not only managed to be a big winner at most of the competitions and gradings entered, but she has also been one of the few judoka to support the club at all the judo displays performed this year. She also took part in the Table Officials Course held at the Sovereign earlier in the year. A very worthy winner of this award. Well done Liz !

Ben Child - runner up
Matthew Owen - The most improved beginner judoka
David Brazil - runner up
Jessica Ramsey - The most improved intermediate judoka
Tom Heathfield - runner up
