There was a huge turn out for this year's summer Games & Awards Evening at the Friends Provident Sports Hall. Over 50 juniors crowded onto the mat to enthusiastically take part in plenty of games including a little bit of judo and sumo ! Ynés ran a Luck Dip and managed to raise about £50 for the Brigitte Trust. Thanks to everyone who contributed gifts. We were joined by Nigel Veal from Friends Provident. He awarded the medals and trophies and in his speech reminded us of the close ties between his company and our club, which have lasted 18 years ! For those of you who would like to know more about the club's history check out the Newsletter web page which has copies of all the editions from 1985 to the present ! This years award winners were; Carl Pinion - Spirit of Judo Award. Carl is a very worthy winner of this award in that he shows the true spirit of judo in everything he does. He quietly gets on with his judo, joining in most competitons and gradings. He helped the youngsters with their warm up exercises before the Surrey Youth Games and again at the recent Millennium League Competition, although he wasn't even taking part in the contests. He also helped out as a Time Keeper at the Millennium League and won 10 points for the club without having to go onto the mat ! Well done Carl ! Simon Watson - The most improved U8 judoka Daniel Baty - runner up Abigail Jones - The most improved beginner judoka Daniel Brett - runner up George Dean - The most improved intermediate judoka William Leach - runner up Laura Webb - The most improved graded judoka Liz Newell - runner up Louise Shaw - Girls' Champion 2003 Henry Dean - Boys' Champion 2003 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
