Mole Valley had a huge team entered this year for the BAA Gatwick Surrey Youth Games. It contained 22 players, 21 coming from Dorking JC and one player Jack Blyth from Pyrford JC. At times it felt like our district probably had the most supporters cheering on the team, which included a great turn out from all our reserves, mums, dads, brothers, sisters and friends of the players. The 4 Mole Valley judo teams were; U11 Girls Anna Schjott-Irving (-28kg), Louis Shaw (-32kg) Team captain, Jordan Lawlor (-32kg), Chloe Cannon (-36kg), Abi Jones (-36kg). U16 Girls Lizzie Louis (-40kg), Molly Crook (+63kg) Team captain U11 Boys Daniel Brett (-27kg), Matthew Howes (-30kg), Morgan McKinnon-Snell (-34kg) Team captain, Thomas Trier (-34kg), Lawrence Swithinbank (-38kg), Jack Blythe (+38kg) U16 Boys Thomas Iles (-34kg), Henry Dean (-38kg), Toby Smith (-42kg), Alex Purves (-46kg), George Dean (-50kg), Luke Ramsey (-55kg), Nick Beal (-60kg), Peter Cousins (-66kg), William Nicholson (+66kg) Team captain Unfortunately Clive Swithinbank, Toby Walker, and Carl Pinion didn't make the weight for their groups, so Thomas Trier (next available reserve), Matthew Howes (reserve for -30kg) & Nick Beal (reserve for -60kg) got chances to compete instead. Both Thomas and Nick won medals in their groups, so it was well worth the effort turning up on the day. Thomas's mum even had to rush back home and get his license ! A special thanks should go to the other reserve players who turned up and didn't get chance to compete. These were Toby O'Sullivan, George Slater, Eric Overington, William Leach, and Kit Lawlor ![]() For many of the U11 players this was their first ever competition. It was a joy to see so many novice and under 6th mon players performing so well on the mat. All appeared to remember exactly how to rei before walking on and off the mat area, with lots of shaking of hands, smiles and plenty of the spirit of judo. For the U11 Boys, Jack Blythe (Pyrford JC) put in a very impressive display to get the Silver, winning 3 of his matches with ippon, and 1 with wazari-awesta-ippon. We managed to field a full team, winning an individual silver and bronze, and 5th place for the whole team. For the U16 Boys, Henry and George Dean both narrowly missed out on the gold in their weight groups, and combined with other impressive performances from their team mates, the Boys U16 team came 3rd out of 11 the districts in the event. The U11 girls team were a force to be reckoned with ! They won most of their contests and eventually found themselves in 1st place winning the U11 Girls Team Trophy. The all supported each other showing great team spirit. Well done to the whole team. Unfortunately due to school trips the U16 Girls team only consisted of 2 players, Lizzie and Molly, but both fought hard and won individual bronzes, and still managed 6th place for their team. Individual medal winners were; Lizzie Louis (Bronze), Molly Crook (Bronze), Anna Schjott-Irving (Gold), Louise Shaw (Silver), Jordan Lawlor (Bronze), Abi Jones (Gold), Thomas Trier (Bronze), Jack Blythe (Silver), Thomas Iles (Bronze), Henry Dean (Silver), Toby Smith (Bronze), George Dean (Silver), Luke Ramsey (Bronze), and Nick Beal (Bronze). ![]() Below is our photo of some of our U11 Girls Team with their Trophy ![]() The Spectrum Leisure Centre was also holding another competition on the day for dry Rowing. This was open to anyone in the Judo Teams. There were no entrants for the U16 girls teams, but Mole Valley won 2 of the other 3 competitions with Carl Pinion recording the best time for the U16 Boys, and Jordan Lawlor for the U11 Girls. ![]() Team Results U11 Girls 1st Mole Valley 2nd Reigate & Banstead 3rd Guildford U11 Boys 1st Woking 2nd Tandridge 3rd Surrey Heath U16 Girls 1st Woking 2nd Runnymede 3rd Surrey Heath U16 Boys 1st Runnymede 2nd Woking 3rd Mole Valley |
