The first contests were against Sovereign Judo Club and although we won 6 of our contests (only one was a bye) and lost 6 the other byes gave Sovereign the overall win in the first round. Our second round of contests were against Liverpool, last years winners, this time we won 4 out of 12 contests, with 4 of the remainder very close they could have gone either way. Our last rounds were against Staines Judo Club. This time we won 6 of 12 contests, again several of the losses could have gone the other way. The Final Result was Liverpool 1st. Staines 2nd. Sovereign 3rd, and Dorking 4th. Everyone who took part performed well, several of the individual performances deserve noting. Louise Shaw in her first ever competition had two losses before doing a beautiful Ippon throw to win her last contest. George Deans fitness was the deciding factor in his second contest win against Liverpool, in a low scoring but very hard won contest, his first ever competition, in which he won all of his contests. The standard of Judo overall was excellent, and the team spirit could not have been better. This competition is going to be run again in 2003 possibly opening some of the heavier weight groups to grades higher than yellow belts. With a full team of players from each club the results could be so much closer. ![]() |
