The Dorking Judo Club - Surrey Millennium League Final Round 2002

Millennium League
Dorking JC had 11 members take part in the final round on the Millennium League at Westcroft Leisure Centre on Sunday October 27th.
The team consisted of Anna & Robert Johnston, Liz Newell, Alex & Nicola Cathrow, Molly Crook, William Nicholson, Luke Ramsey, Henry Dean, Jamie Price and Erik Overington. For some members like Alex it was their first ever competition.
Gold medals were won by Molly and James, Silver for William, and Bronzes for Anna and Liz Newell. However, points were obtained for Dorking Judo Club by every team member, just for entering.
Also helping out was Harry Randall as a Table Official, and Peter Leach (coach).
The medals were handed out by Samantha Lowe, the Commonwealth Games 2002 GOLD medal winner. She also stayed on afterwards to sign autographs. Those who stayed behind to help put away the mats after the grading were honoured again, this time by the presence of Simone Callender, Surrey's other Commonwealth Games 2002 GOLD medal winner. Simone had battled through extremely heavy traffic for several hours on the M25 to get to Westcroft. She signed a few autographs and received an award from the Surrey judo committee. Both Simone and Sam started their judo careers in Surrey. Simone having always been a member of Tokei, and Sam now training with Camberley JC.
The Millennium League was won by Pyrford JC with Dorking Judo Club in a respectable 6th place. For the full results see the Surrey website www.surreyjudo.org.uk
