The Dorking Judo Club

Good Judo And Excellent Value For All People !!

  1. The Dorking Judo Club has been established since 30 March 1984.
  2. Over the years more than 500 children have been introduced to judo through the Dorking Judo Club.
  3. The Dorking Judo Club has been involved in training;
    • 1 British Schools' National Judo Champion.
    • 6 National Kata Champions.
    • 5 Judoka have started with the Dorking Judo Club and since gone on to become Dan Grades.
    • Numerous Area medallists have been part of the Dorking Judo Club.
  4. The Dorking Judo Club has always aimed to give good judo tuition at a cost within the reach of all families. For this reason the Instructors give their time and tuition for FREE , with minimul travel expenses paid to instructors. Without the help of donations from Friends' Provident and a Surrey Area Youth Council Grant, we would not be able to afford even the hire of the Hall without a vast increase in our fees to members.
  5. There are usually 9 sessions each week. See main page for times and details for both our venues.
  6. The instructors are responsible for organising the laying out and putting away of the mats before and after the sessions - which adds approximately 25 minutes to the end of the evenings' judo.
  7. To become an intructor, they will have had to, in their own time and expense;
    • Reach Blue Belt (for Preliminary Club Coach); Brown Belt (for Club coach): Dan Grade (for Senior Club Coach).
    • Attend a British Judo Association Course covering approximately 10 weeks specialized tuition.
    • Submit a personally written Course of Tuition for scrutiny by the BJA Examiners.
    • Give a lesson in front of BJA Examiners and demonstrate techniques from the Gokyo (a list of recognized judo techniques).
    • Become a Public First Aider / pass a written first aid test.
    • Demonstate knowledge of Judo Refereeing / pass a written refereeing paper.
  8. In order to keep up high standards of safety and tuition and maintain validation of the above qualification, the instructor has to attend further courses on a regular basis (further personal time and expense!).
  9. Newsletters and information bulletins and all other administration is carried out in instructors' free time.
  10. We hope you will continue to enjoy Judo and would be pleased to have any further help or suggestions you can make to continue the;

Excellent Value of the Dorking Judo Club.
